Still an unspoilt island paradise, Zanzibar offers an ultimate Indian Ocean experience. It is known as the Spice Island and is characterised by beautiful sandy beaches fringed with pristine coral reefs and warm turquoise water – perfect for relaxing, soaking up the sun and experiencing some of the most exquisite diving and snorkelling spots.

The island is also full of culture and history which can be explored in Stone Town, the island’s historic centre and a World Heritage Site. Visitors can walk between the Sultan’s Palace, the House of Wonders, the Portuguese fort and gardens, the merchants’ houses and the Turkish baths of the old city. Day-long spice tours to working plantations offer the chance to observe the cultivation of cloves, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, and other spices that have made the island famous.

The Menai Bay Conservation Area, a sea turtle protection area for the endangered species that visit the island to breed, is on the south coast whilst roads to the south east coast wind their way through the Jozani Forest. This is home to Zanzibar’s rare Red Colobus monkeys and a number of other primate and small antelope species.

Zanzibar is only approximately a 3 and a half hour flight from Johannesburg and there are a range of superb hotels to choose from. Get All Aboard to tailor make a package for you.
